Ms. codex. Title from Leaves of gold. Collation: Parchment, fol. i (paper)+ 216 (lacking 6) + iv (paper); last gathering of 4 fols. is paper attached by strips of parchment. The strips of parchment contain musical notation. Layout: Written in 1 column of 36 lines; music on 6 four-line staves in red, black, and yellow ink; hard point ruling; textblock: 404 x 287 mm. Script: Written by at least two (possibly three) scribes in rotunda script; the bulk of manuscript written by primary scribe, last gathering by a second scribe. Decoration: 21 historiated initials, 4 decorated initials, 2 excised initials repaired with vellum patch, foliate border decoration throughout. Decoration executed by at least 2 artists. The first hand is a follower of two major Milanese illuminators of the 16th century: Giovan Pietro Birago (active 1472-1513) and Master B.F. (sometimes identified as Francesco Binasco) (cf. Lewis E M 72.11b). Music: Contains musical notation. Shelfmark: Philadelphia, Free Library of Philadelphia, MS Lewis E10. Book plate of Oliver Henry Perkins, and a second unidentified bookplate.
