Ms. codex. Title supplied by cataloger. Collation: Parchment, fol. iii (i paper, ii-iii parchment) + 621 + iii (i-ii parchment, iii paper) Layout: Written in 1 column of 17 lines, ruled in brown ink; text block: 45 x 30 mm. Script: Written in gothic bookhand (textura) Decoration: The illumination work has been attributed to a follower of Jean Pucelle. 15 historiated initials with foliate border bars (4 folios containing historiated initials have been excised), 25 decorated initials with foliate border bars; small illuminated initials with foliate extensions throughout; gold, red, and blue litterae notabiliores throughout. Shelfmark: Philadelphia, Free Library of Philadelphia , MS Lewis E 236. Obituaries in calendar indicate possible use in Alençon: Jeanne de Chatîllon, countess of Alençon and Blois (January 30); Margaret of Namur(?) (February 7); Pierre, count of Alençon (April 13), St. Louis, king of France (August 25); and Phillip III, king of France (October 6). Rubric in Temporale identifying Franciscan use: "In nomine domine incipit ordo collectarum fratrum minorum s[e]c[un]d[u]m consuetudinem romane ecc[lesi]e in p[ri]mo sabbato adventus domini. . ." The obituary of Jean of Navarre, queen of Philip IV, d. 1304 and the absence of an obit for Philip IV, d. 1314, suggests that this manuscript was made between these dates. Folios are inconsistently paginated, with some numbers written only on versos. On recto of last folio, the leaf has been incorrectly identified as 623 in upper right corner and 599 in lower left corner.
